DR. BLICK. [describing a phone call from Manuel
Asensio]: He told me he knew all about me. He had researched all
about me. He knew I was very noted in my field. And then he told me
and asked me if I had any associations with Hemispherx, asked me if I was going
to be doing any research. He eventually then started telling me that
Hemispherx was involved in all this fraud and all the results that I had know
about were all fraudulent. I had known about a new study that was
presented in 1998. I'm showing that Ampligen [Hemispherx's experimental
drug] may have benefits with HIV drugs. He told me that was fraudulent and
then he proceeded to eventually threaten me. And Mr. Asensio told me he
could take me down if he wanted to [emphasis added].

JUDGE SHEPPARD. What did Mr. Asensio say to
you [on the phone]?
DR. BLICK. Mr. Asensio said he could take me down
if he wanted to. And he said if I performed trials with Ampligen it would
destroy my reputation. He demanded of me a letter by noontime that day stating,
number one, that I thought Ampligen was toxic and not effective as a drug; and
number two, that I would not be doing clinical trials with
Hemispherx.
